With the Nintendo Switch – a portable home gaming system – launching in March, you might think the 3DS is on the way out, but Nintendo says this isn’t the case.

Whilst the Wii U has been a pretty big flop for Nintendo, 3DS looks likely to live on alongside Switch.

Speaking to Bloomberg, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima said: “Thanks to our software, the 3DS hardware is still growing. So that business still has momentum.

“Certainly rather than being cannibalized by the Switch, we think the 3DS can continue in its own form.”

Price cuts across the 3DS family seem a certainty, giving the system a better chance of saturteing the youth/budget gaming market.

As for Nintendo Switch, we’ll have to wait until January 13 for more info on the platform. Nintendo will host a live presentation and promises to divulge the exact launch date and a look at the line-up of games currently in development.
