The Nintendo 3DS firmware update which will add eShop functionality will now be rolled out on the evening of June 6 Pacific time, Nintendo of America has announced.
The update had been expected later this month, but it will now be transmitted wirelessly the day before Nintendo’s E3 conference. No reason for the delay was given.
“A new system update for the hand-held Nintendo 3DS system will be available in North America the evening of June 6 Pacific time,” stated a post on the Nintendo of America website. “By downloading the free update via a wireless broadband Internet connection, Nintendo 3DS users can enjoy new features and enhancements, including an Internet browser and access to the Nintendo eShop, where users can browse and purchase downloadable content.”
Contrary to information published yesterday, the firmware update will include a web browser. In addition users will be able to purchase games from a range of stores: 3DS Ware, DSiWare, 3D Classic, Virtual Console GameBoy, Virtual Console Game Gear, Virtual Console GameBoy Color and Virtual Console PC Engine.

A European release hasn’t been announced, but given the US and Japanese dates are the same we see no reason for us to be left out.
Given the release timing it’s possible Nintendo could use its E3 conference to show off the update – maybe we’ll get a surprise or two as well.
