2K Games is opening a new game studio in California headed up by Star Wars: The Force Unleashed lead Haden Blackman, VentureBeat reports.

The studio, which is called ‘Hangar 13’, is working on a “next-generation game for console and PCs”, and, according to 2K, will “lead the charge in creating some of the most memorable triple-A experiences of this generation”.

“I jumped at the opportunity to work with 2K,” Blackman told the site. “They are really committed to quality. I also love working on big games, console and PC titles. Those are the games that I like to play, with complex problems to solve and building teams to solve those problems. I also love the opportunity to develop proprietary technology. It’s super-empowering and challenging.”

The studio has hired talent from 2K Marin and LucasArts and, according to Blackman, has people “who have worked on almost every franchise you can think of”.

“It was an easy choice bringing on a talented creative mind and proven leader like Haden Blackman to head our new 2K studio,” added 2K president Christoph Hartmann. “Under Blackman’s direction, Hangar 13 will lead the charge in creating some of the most memorable triple-A experiences of this generation.”

Further details on Hangar 13’s first project have yet to be officially announced by 2K, but according to Blackman it will offer players “the opportunity to shape their own experiences through moment-to-moment gameplay, characters, and narrative”.

In addition to his work on Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Blackman has previously worked on Star Wars Galaxies, Star Wars: Bounty Hunter and Star Wars: Starfighter.
