2K games has announced a publishing deal with Bethesda Softworks, granting Take-Two co-publishing, sales and distribution rights to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Oblivion is the sequel to the best-selling expansive RPG that was released on PC and Xbox.

“We are thrilled to be working as co-publisher with Bethesda Softworks to help maximize sales of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion,” said Christoph Hartmann, Senior Vice President of Publishing for 2K Games. “Being selected by Bethesda to work on a title that is as highly anticipated by both PC and console gamers worldwide as Oblivion is a testament to 2K Games’ capabilities in successfully managing AAA titles.”

Vlatko Andonov, President of Bethesda Softworks as also pleased with the publishing deal:

“As a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive, 2K Games has the benefit of a worldwide, industry-leading sales and distribution network, and Take-Two’s proven track record of releasing great games. Through this partnership, Oblivion will reach the largest audience possible.”

Since screen shots for Oblivion hit the internet and a number of North American magazines, Oblivion has been one of the most anticipated titles for 2005. The fact that it is one of the first announced next generation console titles has also brought the game to people’s attention. With stunning visuals and freeform gameplay, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion looks to be one of the biggest releases this year, for both PC and an unannounced next generation console.
