Earlier this week sales data from Famitsu publisher Enterbrain had the Xbox 360 as the biggest-selling video game console in Japan for the week of September 8 to 14. The Wii had slumped somewhat to enable the victory, but it was nevertheless a momentous occasion for Microsoft.

The Microsoft celebrations might not last long though, with new sales data from MediaCreate indicating the Xbox 360 didn’t win – the Wii did. The sales cover the same time frame as the Enterbrain numbers but see the Wii outsell the Xbox 360 by 1,500 units, with 29,686 units sold compared to 28,188.

So it appears it’s not a win for Xbox, but Microsoft can claim victory over the PlayStation 3.
