Minecraft: PS4 Edition will make use of the DualShock 4’s unique features, including the touchpad and SHARE button, Mojang’s chief word officer Owen Hill has confirmed.

“You’ll be able to navigate all the menus (and craft) by using the touchpad and, of course, share and stream your experiences thanks to Playstation 4’s built-in social thingymabobs,” explained Hill on the PlayStation Blog. “It’s all completely optional, so don’t worry if you’re not keen on moving your thumbs or showing off your skills.”

Up to eight players can join up online, with four of these possible from a single PS4 thanks to four-player split-screen.

Also look out for a bunch of Sony specific DLC, with many of these characters featured in the trailer below.

Sadly Mojang’s plan to enable upgrades to the PS4 Edition from the PS3 Edition Blu-ray is “proving a bit trickier to set up” than it imagined. Digital version upgrades will definitely be possible for a fee.
