Arrowhead CCO, Johan Pilestedt, has teased the studio’s next game, assuring Helldivers 2 fans that it’s a project they will immediately be able to “jump into” and “recognize the DNA”.
Speaking to Gamesradar at the Golden Joystick Awards 2025, the studio’s next game will “continue the legacy of what [Arrowhead has] created already”. Pilestedt promises Super Earth soldiers that it “won’t be something that’s too far off from Helldivers, so all of the people that are massive Helldivers fans will be able to jump into the next game and recognize the DNA, at least”.
Don’t expect this new game to come out anytime soon, as it’s still in very early development. There’s no further elaboration about the game and how it mirrors and differs to Helldivers 2, but we have more details based off comments from Arrowhead in the past.
What we know about Arrowhead’s next game after Helldivers 2
One thing we know about Arrowhead’s next game after Helldivers 2 is that it’s ditching the archaic Autodesk Stingray engine for Unreal Engine 5. This comes courtesy of a job listing seeking a Senior System Designer, in which “strong experience with Unreal is essential”. This is a godsend as it means Arrowhead’s next game shouldn’t be crippled by “technical debt” and poor optimization on PC, unlike Helldivers 2.
We also know Arrowhead’s next game is “100% funded” by themselves and independent of Sony. There’s no confirmation, but hopefully this means it will be available day-one on Xbox in addition to PlayStation and PC.
Lastly, although the concept of Arrowhead’s next game is a mystery, we know that a “social hub space station” similar to the “tower in Destiny” is “on the feature list,” thanks to Arrowhead CEO, Shams Jorjani, on Discord. After saying this, Jorjani clarified that Arrowhead’s next game is not Helldivers 3.
As for Helldivers 3, there are no plans from the developer. Pilestedt believes Helldivers 2 is “growing into” Helldivers 3 through years of updates, and the plan is to support Helldivers 2 for as long as people keep playing and it’s financially feasible.
