For many Halo fans the absence of the MA5B Assault Rifle in Halo 2 was heavily missed, with its replacement, the M7 Sub Machine Gun, feeling like an unwelcome guest.

Thankfully Halo 3 sees the return of the Assault Rifle in the form of the MA5C, and Bungie has recently released a flurry of information on the much loved weapon.

The MA5C is said to fall somewhere between the Halo MA5B Assault Rifle and Halo 2’s BR55 Battle Rifle. A fully loaded MA5C magazine will only hold 32 rounds, down from the MA5B’s 60, but this loss has been balanced with more power and accuracy.

According to Bungie’s report, “the most significant negative comment was reference to the MA5C’s lack of a secondary weapon system.” However, the butt of the rifle can be used to dish out some devastating blows at close range.

Halo 3 is expected later this year, with the highly anticipated multiplayer beta scheduled for the spring.
