- The full release version of Towerborne will be available on Game Pass from day one.
- However, the Early Access version of the game isn’t present on the subscription service.
Towerborne may look familiar to those of us who played through Banner Saga games, coming from the same developer, Stoic. With a similar art style and side-scrolling combat, the game is being developed under the Xbox Game Studio umbrella. As such, naturally, the question arose – can you play Towerborne with the Xbox Game Pass? The answer is a bit more nuanced, so let’s dive in.
Can you play Towerborne on Game Pass?
The full release of Towerborne will be available on Game Pass from day one. However, that doesn’t extend to the Early Access version. As stated by the devs during the Gamescom 2024 presentation for the game, the Game Pass would bring too many players into Early Access to provide “the sort of careful, constructive feedback the studio is seeking.”
With that said, Game Pass players will have to wait for the official release, expected sometime in 2025. Until then, the game will be tested in Early Access through Steam, with the intent of polishing the game before more players can dig in. While the full game will be free-to-play with in-game microtransactions, the Early Access version offers several buy-in founder packs.
Xbox Game Pass players will have to wait for the official release of Towerborne, expected sometime in 2025.
As stated, this is only available on PC through Steam, so there is no option to get them with the Xbox Game Pass. It remains to be seen when the game releases if any of those cosmetics will become available to everyone else. Until then, if you’re looking to play Towerborne through Microsoft’s subscription service, you’ll have to be patient and wait for the game’s full launch. Hopefully, that will mean a more complete product, with more bells and whistles than what is currently available in Early Access, so everyone wins.
