- You can upgrade your gear at the Forge in Belfry. You need to have necessary resources and available upgrade slots in the gear you wish to improve.
- You can dismantle items you no longer need at the Forge as well. Select the piece and click Dismantle, which will destroy the item and give you materials you need to upgrade other items.
Finding better pieces of equipment is only the first piece of the puzzle that leads to progressing your character in Towerborne. You can also upgrade the most useful pieces while dismantling those you don’t need anymore.Â
As you collect more loot after missions, the process repeats itself, so you will always have to be on the lookout for more powerful gear. In the meantime, upgrades are a good way to eke out a bit more power before replacing the piece.
How to upgrade items
To upgrade your items in Towerborne, you first have to complete the introductory missions to unlock the feature. Then, visit Bumble in the Belfry, who will explain the process and let you use his Forge. Interact with the forge, which will open the menu to upgrade and dismantle gear.
Select the item you want to upgrade and check if it has any upgrade slots available, signified by empty diamond icons. Check that you have the necessary resources to upgrade your gear, in the form of blue, purple, and red dust. These can be obtained as mission rewards, as well as from dismantling gear you no longer need. Click on the Upgrade button to complete the process and upgrade your items, improving their stats.
Most items can be upgraded, but the more powerful items can be upgraded multiple times, providing you with better stats and higher gear score.
How to dismantle items
Dismantling items is the best way to get the materials you need to upgrade your gear in Towerborne. To dismantle items you no longer need, head over to Bumble after playing through the introductory missions. He will give you the Aspect of Dismantling to teach you how to do it.
Interact with the forge and press the Dismantle button to destroy the selected piece of gear, like the Aspect from Bumble’s example. This will net you a small amount of upgrade materials, the rarity of which depends on the item’s level and quality. For example, dismantling the Aspect of Dismantling will give 50 Basic Spirit Dust, aka blue dust. You can then use those materials to upgrade any gear that you plan to use, as we explained above.
Whenever you’re reassessing your gear at the Belfry, take your time to go through items you don’t need and dismantle them. You’ll need the materials, and those items are probably too low-level to be of any further use to you. So instead of having them clutter your inventory, make room and get rid of those you’re certain you won’t use any more.
