Something that makes Throne and Liberty stand out from other MMOs is its unique take on mounts. Instead of riding a majestic steed or daring wolf into battle, your character becomes these creatures. When you choose to sprint, fly, or even swim, you turn into a creature suited to the situation. For instance, those who want to glide across the sky can turn into an eagle or a crow.

Alongside, you have the option to shapeshift into various creatures using the morph system. This grants access to interesting interactions that you might not otherwise get, making the system worthwhile if you know how to use it. Let’s break down the shapeshift system and how you can use it the correct way.

Morphing system explained

The morphing/shapeshifting system is similar to using mounts in other games. When you want to sprint, you can turn into an elk or a wolf. If you want to fly, you can turn into a bird of some sort to glide across the sky. Finally, when you want to swim, you can turn into an otter or other aquatic animal.

To become a fast land animal, simply press the sprint key. This will transform you into a tiger at first but can be changed to a wolf or other fast land animal. The sprint key is typically bound to the left analog stick on console or the shift key on PC. To fly, press the jump button while you are in the air and you’ll transform into a flying animal such as an eagle. This does not work with a normal jump and must be from an area high up. Finally, you’ll naturally turn into an aquatic creature when you’re swimming.

Keep in mind that you can’t attack while in your shapeshifted form. Doing so will break the shapeshift. Because of this, your weapons will be unavailable until you shift out of the form by using an attack or by deactivating the morph.

How to change shapeshifting skins

If you want to change the animals you transform into, you can do so by accessing the main menu. From there, select the Morph option at the top of the menu. In the Morph menu, you’ll see the dash, glide, and swim options. Select one of these options to see the animal you currently have selected, select a new animal and press the Add designated morph option to change the animal you transform into.

You can also change your special skin by choosing the Special option. From there, choose your desired Morph creature from the list. This allows you to turn into various enemy types and special animals you normally wouldn’t have access to.

How to get more morphing skins

To unlock more morphing skins, you need to complete specific tasks that typically involve codices in an area. For instance, the Scarab shapeshift is obtained by completing Chapter 1: The Tragedy of the Casill Family. To learn how a specific shapeshifting form is obtained, go into the Morph menu and select the “i” symbol next to a Morph’s image. This will bring you to a new menu that tells you how the skin is obtained.

Benefits of shapeshifting

There are multiple benefits to shapeshifting such as faster movement and swim speeds. You can also use morphing to glide through the air and avoid taking fall damage. One of the biggest benefits comes from the ability to shapeshift into enemies from Throne and Liberty. Morphing into an enemy allows you to walk through enemy territory undetected. This works great in areas with orcs and skeletons where you might want to avoid battle.
