The ever-prolific HoYoverse is back with yet another new game, this time leaning into the cosy management we’ve come to know and love in games like Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley. Dubbed Petit Planet, it’s as adorable as it sounds, marrying life sim staples with a celestial setting as you go about sprucing up and nurturing your very own little planet—petit translating to small in French.

It’s early days, though, as the Petit Planet game was only just announced at the 2025 Tokyo Game Show, so the marketing machine is only just churning to life. Expect charming neighbors, suffocating cuteness, resource gathering, and a range of fun activities, including fishing, socializing, and farming.

As it stands, there’s no confirmed Petit Planet release date, nor has HoYoverse teased us with even a vague release window. Speaking speculatively, HoYo likes to put in the marketing groundwork for anywhere from one to two years from announcement to release, so we expect something similar for their new cosy life sim. That’s roughly the time frame that the company stuck to with Honkai: Star Rail and Genshin Impact.

That’s a guess, though, and it’s possible we could see it in players’ hands much sooner or possibly a little later. But, given HoYoverse’s deep pockets and massive development teams, HoYoverse’s Petit Planet should land sooner rather than later.

Petit Planet gameplay and trailer analysis

The first Petit Planet trailer made its adorable debut in September 2025 at the Tokyo Game Show. Soundtracked to warming piano twinkles, it depicts a big-eyed girl with an unmistakable plodding about a small planet, tending to crops, mining ores, and catching butterflies, among other gently paced, serene activities. We also catch a glimpse of the planet’s local inhabitants, a crew of cuddly creatures who offer both guidance and gifts.

The trailer also shows what looks like some sort of interplanetary highway that lets you visit other planets, presumably those of friends and other creatures, for dance parties, stargazing, trade, cozy fireside evenings, beach days, giant board games, and, of course, the chance to show off your customized homes. We imagine the bulk of the Petit Planet gameplay to evolve around these activities, along with tending to and decorating your own home planet.

A visit to the freshly minted Petit Planet website also offers a quick overview of the neighbors you’ll come across, including Yunguo the cultivator, Isaki the battle beetle trainer, Medowlyn the plushie designer, and Frostia the mystic scholar.

Our Petit Planet gacha pricing predictions

Though MiYoho has yet to confirm it, we’d be extremely surprised if Petit Planet didn’t launch as a free-to-play game. Honkai: Star Rail, Genshin Impact, and Zenless Zone Zero are all free-to-play. However, the trade-off here is that the game is likely to feature some form of gacha and micro-transactions aplenty. Again, this is speculative, and HoYoverse may make it its first-ever paid game that veers away from its tried-and-tested gacha model.

Expected Petit Planet platforms

Regarding Petit Planet platforms, no official information has been shared so far. However, the FAQs for Coziness Test Sign-Up (basically a public beta test) explain that participants will be able to play on PC and iOS. As such, we expect the game to land on those two platforms when it releases.

As for others, we’d be surprised if Petit Planet didn’t make it ways onto PlayStation, Xbox consoles, and Android devices at launch, but we’ll need to wait for firm confirmation of this from HoYoverse.

What sets Petit Planet apart from previous MiYoHo games?

The main difference compared to previous MiYoho games is that Petit Planet includes no combat at all. Instead, it focuses on a cozier experience akin to Animal Crossing. It’s certainly a departure for the studio, which is known for its bombastic, anime-inspired combat gameplay.

The prevailing themes in Petit Planet are also a lot lighter, focusing on friendship, communal exchange, and cooperation. Much of this will focus on a social hub known as the Galactic Bazaar, where players can interact and play together. There’s also a notable distance in scale, with a focus on small planets rather than the massive open world of Genshin Impact, for example.
