For those who are unfamiliar, MagicCon is Magic: the Gathering’s large scale premier level event. They are a bit different than the Grand Prix’s of old. While they still have a larger tournament, the convention has more diverse offerings, such as panels, commander and draft events and more. One of the things that Wizards of the Coast has done is offer the MTG Festival in a Box package for those who cannot make the event.
Just yesterday, the contents of this Festival in a Box Las Vegas 2023 edition was announced, and its contents were revealed. Today we’re going to go over the contents of that box and whether or not this is worth your while to purchase the box.

That’s quite a bit of value bundled into this package. If you’re interested in buying this box, head over to the Secret Lair drop page for this. At the time of writing the sale goes live on September 14, 2023. Quantities are limited so be sure to get to the page early if you want one.
MTG Festival in a Box Las Vegas value
The MTG Festival in a Box Las Vegas 2023 edition are being sold for $250, so let’s break down the prices of each of these items individually so see if you’re getting your money’s worth.
Mystery Booster box – Convention Edition

The first thing in the box is a Convention Edition box of Mystery Boosters. There is a retail version of the Mystery Booster box that is quite expensive. This is a version you can get at conventions and they’re slightly different in contents than the retail version. You can find previous year’s Convention boxes online for around the $200 price point.
24 Pack Chaos Draft Bundle
Next, you’re getting a 24 pack Chaos Draft bundle. While a lot of these packs are Standard legal sets, you also get three Modern Horizons 2 packs. Assuming the average retail value of these packs, you’re looking at around $100 in value for the packs if you were buying them individually.
Secret Lair Drop and Promos

The last things that you get are a Dan Frazier’s Mox Box Secret Lair, which includes Foil-Etched versions of Mox Tantalite, Mox Opal, and Sol Ring, as well as a Relentless Rats promo by Graham Yarrington .
The Mox Box Secret Lair has yet to drop, but when it does, it will most likely retail for around $50. Previous Dan Frazier Secret Lairs in the Foil-Etched version are going for around that amount, so this is a pretty safe bet. What’s even better is that the value of the individual cards in the drop are more expensive than the drop itself. Mox Opal is around the $65 mark, and depending on which one you find, promo Sol Rings can be $10-$15, so you’re definitely getting your value here.
The Relentless Rats promotional card is more than likely not going to command a ton of value, given that the card is only a couple dollars. The benefit to that is that if you’re playing a deck using Relentless Rats and you want to change them out for this promo, it probably won’t cost you a ton of money to do.
Overall, for the price of $250, you’re getting at least $350 in value, which sounds like a pretty great deal to me. Definitely consider picking this up if you can.
