Flins is a very powerful 5-star on-field DPS unit in Genshin Impact. His kit relies on the Lunar-Charged reaction, which was introduced with Ineffa in patch 5.8. Flins isn’t that good when it comes to exploration, but as a DPS, he’s more than enough to easily clear out Spiral Abyss Floor 12.
Since Flins is a 5-star unit, it’s natural to question whether he is viable on a free-to-play account or not. However you slice it, you do need Ineffa, another 5-star unit, in your team for optimal damage output. However, you can also use Aino, who is a 4-star unit, to trigger the Lunar-Charged reaction. This means there’s a free-to-play option here, making Flins well worth a look. Read on to learn more.
Best Flins Build
Flins, being a DPS character, relies on good stats for optimal damage output. In addition to the signature weapons and artifacts, you’ll need a sufficient amount of ATK and Energy Recharge. These are his two most important stats, which need to be followed by Crit Rate and Crit DMG.
Build Elements | Equipment |
---|---|
Weapon | Bloodsoaked Ruins |
Artifact | Night of the Sky’s Unveiling |
Sands | ATK% |
Goblet | ATK% |
Circlet | Crit Rate or Crit DMG |
You’ll need to hit about 2000 ATK and around 140 percent Energy Recharge for Flins. You should try maintaining about 50 percent Crit Rate and 175 percent Crit DMG. Finally, he needs 160 Elemental Mastery, but if you hit 2000 ATK, the former is boosted through his passive talent, Whispering of Flame.
As a final note, when it comes to Artifacts, you can use an Electro DMG Goblet if you want, provided you’re able to hit 2000 ATK through the other stats. Otherwise, an ATK% Goblet is a lot more valuable since it makes it easier to reach the required stats, and you don’t lose out on any damage either.
Best Flins Weapons
Flins benefits from weapons that can boost the Lunar-Charged reaction. This is why Bloodsoaked Ruins, his signature weapon, is the best option you can go for, regardless of his team composition or stats.
However, if you don’t have his signature weapon, you can also go for other options that boost Elemental Damage or provide important stats such as Crit Rate or Crit DMG.
Weapons such as the Staff of the Scarlet Sand and the Primordial Jade Winged Spear are excellent choices for Flins. We’ve set out the details below.
Bloodsoaked Ruins
This is the best weapon for Flins, primarily because it synergizes with the Lunar-Charged Reaction. This weapon comes with Crit Rate substats, which help out in balancing Flins’s stats. Additionally, upon using Elemental Burst, it increases Lunar-Charged damage by 36 percent for the equipped character.
It also increases Crit DMG by 28 percent when the equipped character triggers a Lunar-Charged reaction. Flins also receives around 12 Elemental Energy when Lunar-Charged is triggered. As such, this weapon provides a good balance between stats and damage, making it a must-have for Flins.
Staff of the Scarlet Sands
Though the Staff of the Scarlet Sands is Cyno’s signature weapon, its flexibility makes it a good pick for most Polearm characters in Genshin Impact. This weapon also comes with Crit Rate substats, which are a welcome addition for almost any build. Additionally, it converts 52 percent of Elemental Mastery into ATK.
Flins boats significant Elemental Mastery through his passive ability, Whispering of Flame. With this weapon, Elemental Mastery is then again converted to more ATK for Flins, thereby creating a powerful, compounding stat buff. If an enemy is hit by Flins’s Elemental Skill, the weapon further boosts 28 percent of Elemental Mastery as ATK in addition to the previous 52 percent. This means big numbers.
Primordial Jade Winged Spear
The Primordial Jade Winged Spear is a stat-enhancing weapon, but it’s a good option if you don’t have access to the other weapons on our list. However, if you look in terms of raw power, this weapon falls behind, as it doesn’t provide any reaction or Elemental buffs.
This weapon comes with juicy Crit Rate sub-stats, and it increases ATK by 3.2 percent upon hitting an enemy. This effect can stack up to a total of seven times. When you hit the maximum possible stacks, your damage is further increased by 12 percent.
Best Flins Artifacts
The best artifact set for Flins is Night of the Sky’s Unveiling. This artifact set is specifically catered towards Nod-Krai characters since it triggers the Moonsign Level mechanic.
Moonsign Level is increased depending on the number of characters with this buff present in the team. If there is one Moonsign character, then it triggers Nascent Gleam, and if there are two, it triggers Ascendant Gleam. These facilitate powerful Crit Rate buffs and play a crucial role in any top-tier Flins build.
As part of the two-piece bonus for Night of the Sky’s Unveiling, you receive 80 Elemental Mastery, which is a good stat for Flins. If you equip four pieces, then you’ll receive the Gleaming Moon effect, provided you trigger a Lunar Reaction when on the field. This increases Crit Rate by 15 or 30 percent, depending on whether Nascent Gleam or Ascendant Gleam is active.
If you want to receive the 30 percent bonus, you need to have multiple Nod Krai characters in Flins’ party so as to trigger Ascendant Gleam. Apart from the Crit Rate bonus, the Lunar Reaction DMG Bonus for all units is increased by 10 percent depending on the number of Gleaming Moon effects active on each character.
Flins Rotations And Skills
Flins is relatively easy to use, but since he uses Lunar-Charged in his kit, you’ll need to have a firm understanding of the mechanic if you want to get the most out of him.
Lunar-Charged operates very similarly to Electro-Charged. Simply combine Hydro and Electric attacks, and you’re golden. However, you’ll need a specific character with Lunar-Charged in their kit, such as Ineffa or Flins, to trigger the effect.
The key difference between Lunar Charged and Electro-Charged is that the former can Crit, while the latter cannot. This is why building Crit on Flins is so powerful.
Flins Skills
Flins’ kit relies on reactions from other units for maximum benefits. His basic attack is a simple, five-part combo. Nothing unusual here.
However, Flins’ Elemental Skill is far more crucial as it infuses you with Electro. If you simply use the Electro Infused attacks, you won’t deal much damage. However, when you press the Elemental Skill, your Elemental Burst is replaced by Thunderous Symphony.
Thunderous Symphony only has 30 Energy Cost and can be used right after you trigger the Elemental Skill. The Elemental Skill itself has a very short cooldown, so you can press it again to repeat the same, thereby dealing a lot of damage to enemies. If you have Ascendant Gleam activated, the Thunderous Symphony will deal an additional instance of damage. This is where Flins’ damage potential begins to shine.
If you don’t want to use Thunderous Symphony for 30 Energy twice, you can consume 80 Energy and trigger his full Elemental Burst, Cometh the Night. While this is a route to solid damage output, it’s less efficient than using Thunderous Symphony.
With his first Passive, Symphony of Winter, Flins gains 20 percent additional damage when Ascendant Gleam is active. This can be easily achieved by having two Nod-Krai characters in your party.
Flins’ second Passive, Whispering of Flame, increases his Elemental Mastery by 8 percent of his base ATK stats. This can increase to a maximum of 160, which is why you need about 2000 ATK to achieve this stat.
His final Passive, Moonsign Benediction: Old World Secrets transforms Electro-Charged reactions to Lunar-Charged. The base damage of Lunar-Charged is also increased by 14 percent. He also increases the party’s Moonsign Level by one due to this Passive effect.
Rotations
Flins has one simple rotation, which you should follow regardless of the party you’re using. The rotation is: Elemental Skill > Elemental Skill > Special Elemental Burst > Normal Attacks > Elemental Skill > Special Elemental Burst.
This is Flins’s best combo in Genshin Impact and helps him deal the highest possible damage. Using Normal Attacks in between Elemental Skills allows you to generate Electro Particles. This is invaluable when it comes to meeting the 30 cost requirement for the Special Elemental Burst.
Best Flins Teams
Flins relies heavily on Lunar-Charged reactions; he needs Ascendant Gleam to trigger the additional instances of damage. As such, you’ll need two Nod-Krai characters in the party to get the most out of him. The only characters who work with Flins in this regard are Ineffa and Aino.
Flins Ineffa Team
This team consists of Flins, Ineffa, Sucrose, and Yelan. It’s a pretty costly team with three 5-star units and is arguably the strongest team for Flins you can go for in the current Genshin Impact meta.
In this team, Ineffa herself deals a lot of damage, but more importantly, she buffs the party’s Elemental Mastery through her Passive Ability. You can use the Gilded Dreams Artifact set on her for personal damage or Tenacity of Milileth to buff the damage of the entire team.
Sucrose’s role here is to swirl Electro and thereby boost the damage of the Lunar-Charged reaction. It’s ideal if you have her at her sixth Constellation level, so that all party members receive a 20% Elemental DMG Bonus.
Yelan is a solid support who can deal very high damage through coordinated attacks from her ultimate ability. However, she is the primary source of Hydro in the team, which is a necessary element to trigger Lunar-Charged. Additionally, if possible, you should run the five-star bow Elegy of the End on Yelan, as it provides powerful buffs for off-field characters.
Flins Aino Team
If you don’t have Ineffa, Aino is also a strong option for Flins. This team consists of Flins, Aino, Sucrose, and Fischl. It runs the dual benefits of being highly effective while also easily available to folks with a free-to-play approach.
The biggest advantage of having Aino is that her rotations are very short. This means you can quickly switch between the various characters and deal high damage through multiple rotations. She is also the key source of Hydro in the party. Her capacity for Hydro application is one of the best in the game.
Sucrose’s swirl can increase the Electro damage of the party, while Fischl can deal off-field damage. When it comes to weapons, Elegy of the End is a strong option for Fischl due to the off-field damage buffs.
