Hellbreach is a new activity in Diablo 4 for Season 5. This new event is an instanced piece of content that allows players to try the new Inferal Horde game mode in their dungeons as they progress. Those who stumble on it will get a small taste of the new wave mode with all the challenges and rewards that come with it. Let’s take a look at how the new Hellbreach system works in the Infernal Hordes season.
How Hellbreaches work in Diablo 4
When players start a seasonal character during the Infernal Horde season, they can encounter Hellbreaches as they explore the world. They are somewhat similar to Cellars and Dungeons in that regard. Players can find them on World Tier 1 and World Tier 2 difficulty settings.
As you enter, you’ll get a taste of the Infernal Horde mode. You’ll fight a few waves of enemies as you progress through the map. You’ll then encounter a kiss-curse choice before entering the boss room. Defeating the boss and the Hellbreach rewards you with Burning Aether. This is the currency used in Infernal hordes mode. You will then spend this to open chests at the end of the run to get rewards. You typically get the choice between materials, gear, and gold.
Remember that this is a taste of the Infernal horde content to come, which is a more defined game activity. When you reach World Tier 3, you will find a questline called The Eyes of the Enemy, which you can complete to unlock Infernal Hordes. You’ll then unlock a new item called the Infernal Compass, which is used to participate in the mode. Seasonal characters must progress the main seasonal questline and reach World Tier 3 and start Eyes of the Enemy to unlock the feature. Until then, seasonal characters can experience the Hellbreaches they find around the map.
