The Tower is the social hub area of the game. It is where players can collect weapons, armour, bounties and more as well as socialise with others. The camera jumps to a third person view, allowing you to view all the new equipment you’ve purchased. There is no combat within the Tower.
This guide will give you a complete rundown of everything there is to do within the Tower.
The Tower: Basic Overview
When you first land on the Tower, there is a red robot just to the right of the central set of stairs. Speaking to it with open up a map.
The whole area is divided into three main sectors, each with its own sub-sections. The left strut (marked in green on the map) contains Tower North, the one on the right is the Tower Hanger (in red), while the central area includes Tower Watch, Traveler’s Walk and the Hall of Guardians (both marked in blue).
Each location has different NPCs to speak to and obtain equipment from.
Tower Watch
The Tower Watch contains the Cryptarch, Vaults, Special Orders, Postmaster, Gunsmith, Bounties, Crucible and Vanguards.
Cryptarch
The Cryptarch, Master Rahool, decodes Engrams. Engrams are found throughout the campaign, but what they actually are is unknown at first. In exchange for Glimmer (Destiny’s form of currency), Rahool will decode them for you to equip. You can also buy Engrams from him, the risk is you never know exactly what you’re getting.
Vaults
Players can store loot they collect throughout the game which they do not wish to dismantle in the vaults. There are three storage sections: weapons, armour and general. The vaults are found just in front of the Cryptarch.
Special Orders
Special orders is part of the kiosk occupied by Tess Everis to the left of the main foyer. Items which are sent to you can be collected here, including DLC, banners etc. and pre-order bonuses.
Postmaster
The Postmaster, Kadi 55-30, works on the opposite side of the kiosk. Any messages sent to you following missions will be delivered here. They can be notifications of completed bounties, rewards and other such information.
Gunsmith
Banshee-44 is located in the far right corner of the main foyer of the Tower. You can speak to him to unlock or purchase new weapons.
Bounties
Once you are of a certain level, bounties will become available. Xander 99-40 (found above the staircase leading to the Vanguards and Crucible) provides players with these in-mission quests, which earn additional Vanguard reputation and XP.
The Crucible
The Crucible is the player-versus-player multiplayer aspect of Destiny. Down the central stairway are two NPCs, Lord Shaxx, the Crucible Handler, and Arcite 99-40, the Crucible Quartermaster. Weapons and armour can be purchased from the Quartermaster, but only Legendary armour can be purchased from Shaxx.
Vanguards
The Vanguards are the leaders of the three Guardian classes. You can get Guardian-specific items from each Vanguard. You can only use items obtained by the Vanguard of your character class.
Tower Hangar
The Tower Hangar contains the Quartermaster, Dead Orbit, the Shipwright and the Future War Cult.
Quartermaster
Roni 55-30 sells Legendary weapons and armour, as well as improved campaign vehicles, and is also willing to exchange materials you collect, like spinmetal leaves.
Dead Orbit
Arach Jalaal is found at the bottom of a flight of stairs opposite the Shipwright, and sells Legendary weapons and armour as well as new emblems.
Shipwright
Amanda Holliday is the lady to turn to when you want to purchase blueprints for your ship in order to explore new worlds within the galaxy. She also sells vehicle upgrades.
Future War Cult
At the top of the stairs is Lakshmi-2, another dealer in emblems and Legendary weapons and armour.
Tower North
Tower North contains the Speaker, New Monarchy and Guardian Outfitter, and is found immediately left of Tower Plaza.
New Monarchy
New Monarchy is a cult similar to that of the Future War Cult in the Hangar, but specialises in selling Crucible weapons and armour as well as emblems. Speak to Executor Hideo if you wish to improve your multiplayer equipment, he’s found just to the left of the stairs leading into Tower North.
Guardian Outfitter
Eva Levante is found immediately right of the stairwell leading into this section, down a small corridor. Her focus is on giving Guardians customisation options in the form of emblems and shaders (which change the colour of your armour set).
The Speaker
The voice of the Traveler, the Speaker is one of Destiny’s key NPCs. He sells Legendary armour and Legendary emblems.
