Need to know what an Error Cube is in Deep Rock Galactic, and how to get one? When players first found this strange object it wasn’t clear what it was or what it did. It’s remained an enigma in the lore ever since.

This mysterious material is one of the rarest items in the game, so it’s easy to see why players want to get their hands on this strange cube. Whether you need to complete hidden achievements, have to promote your character, or just want to get one for yourself, the Error Cube is a sight to behold. How do you get the material, and what is it anyway? We’re here to let you know everything.

What is the Error Cube in Deep Rock Galactic?

The Error Cube, referred to in-game as ERR://23¤Y%/, is an incredibly rare material that can be found in Deep Rock Galactic missions. It is a mineable material that you’re able to deposit into the M.U.L.E. like other resources, and it gives you a big experience reward of 4,000 XP. It also helps you unlock the What Is This Thing? hidden achievement. However, you’re not able to use this cube for any upgrades. It’s simply in your inventory for you to show off.

It has an odd appearance, appearing as a black cube shape with glowing white grid lines on each side. The white grid pulsates on it, indicating some kind of light in its core. It looks like a bit like a colorless Rubik’s Cube.

How do you get an Error Cube in Deep Rock Galactic?

To get an Error Cube for yourself, you’re going to need to mine it from ore deposits while playing missions. Luckily the cube can spawn in any mission type, and on any planetary region. Unluckily, it’s the rarest material in the game. You’ll go on tons of missions without ever finding one due to its low 1/26 spawn rate.

A mysterious artifact

In the game files for Deep Rock Galactic, the Error Cube is referred to as the ‘Precursor Artifact’. This may imply unrevealed lore, but right now there’s not more information about the cube.

When mining during missions, look for gray spikes on rock formations with a pink and purple glow. This is where you can find Error Cubes. Because this mineral has a very low chance of appearing, expect to do tons of grinding. We recommend mining in a co-op team rather than going solo if you want to cover more ground in less time.
