Death Stranding 2 vehicles allow to cover more ground and deliver larger quantities of cargo much faster than you would on foot. Though you’re confined to trudging long distances on foot for the early hours of the game, you’ll unlock your first tri-cruiser vehicle fairly early on towards the tail end of Episode 1 in Mexico.
From there, progressing the story will lead to bigger and better transport options, making those treacherous journeys across both Mexico and Australia a whole lot easier. In this guide, we’ll walk you through all the vehicles in Death Stranding 2, how to unlock each one, and how to repair and recharge vehicles.
How to get a vehicle in Death Stranding 2
To unlock the tri-cruiser, you’ll need to progress the Episode 1 portion of the story in Mexico and complete Order 005 and Order 006. Order 005 tasks you with defeating the BTs near the Former Geophysics Research Lab and delivering the prototype MP Bullets, while Order 006 involves defeating the Giant BT outside the research facility. Once the Giant BT is dead, return the Former Geophysics Research Lab where Alex Weatherstone will explain that the tri-cruiser is now available for you to use.
How to craft vehicles in Death Stranding 2
To fabricate a vehicle in Death Stranding 2, you’ll need to visit a facility or settlement equipped with a Garage. These tend to be ones with a downward ramp leading to a circular platform. Interact with the Delivery Terminal, select Fabrication and Management, then Garage. Select Fabricate Vehicles then the vehicle you want to craft. Confirm fabrication then exit the menu and after a short cut scene the vehicle will emerge from the elevator ready for you to use.
You’ll also occasionally come across vehicles abandoned by other players out in the wild that you can drive. This is a boon if you don’t have the materials or were forced to abandon your own due to draining its charge.
How to repair vehicles in Death Stranding 2
To repair a vehicle, visit a facility with a Garage and park it on top of the circular elevator at the bottom of the ramp. Approach the bike and you’ll see a circle button prompt to repair the bike. Alternatively, you can drive a vehicle into a facility equipped with a Garage (or Fragile’s DHV Magellan), then head to the Private Room. When you head back to the surface, the bike will be fully repaired and charged. Vehicles sustain damage from both impacts with the environment and Timefall rain like cargo does.
How to charge vehicles in Death Stranding 2
You have two options to charge vehicles:
- Build a Generator using a PCC then wait within the structure’s denoted radius for the battery to recharge. You can also drive under Generators built by other players out in the wild to recharge vehicles.
- Repair a vehicle at a facility/DHV Magellan Garage or visit a Private Room to fully charge its battery.
Once you reach Australia during Episode 3, you’ll unlock APAS Enhancements, some of which let you boost vehicle battery capacity and use Sam’s battery a source of emergency power, useful for when you’re miles from a Generator:
APAS Enhancement | Effect |
---|---|
Battery Efficiency Boost | Reduces vehicle battery consumption by a set %. |
Emergency Vehicle Charger | Uses Sam’s personal battery to supply power to vehicles with fully depleted charges. |
Self-Driving Support | Allows vehicles to drive themselves. This enhancement will activate upon reaching a certain speed – without boosting – when driving in the centre of a road. |
