Wondering how to build roads in Death Stranding 2? Scaling cliffs and wading through rivers is all well and good, but before long you’ll want to invest in roads to make transporting goods faster and easier, not least once you’ve got a Pickup Off-Roader truck and want to avoid Brigands and BT areas. Fortunately, there’s a network of paved roads that stretches across the Australian continent, a vestige of the pre-Death Stranding world. It’s your job to rebuild it.

Unlike most other structures, roads aren’t built using a PCC, and instead are built using specific terminals at set positions out in the wild. Think of roads as local infrastructure that needs restoring. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to build roads in Death Stranding 2.

How to construct roads in Death Stranding 2

To build roads, you’ll need to donate Chiral Crystals, Metals, and Ceramics to Auto-Pavers. These appear across Australia as elevated platforms with a terminal and a set of stairs leading up. The map displays them as well with a column icon. The first one you’ll come across is located just west of The Government’s Base, which you’ll reach in Episode 3 Drawbridge. Note that roads aren’t available in Mexico either during your first visit in Episode 1 or any future stints in the region using fast travel.

Approach the terminal and hold Square to activate it then add resources from your inventory and/or vehicles. If you’ve dropped off enough to meet the construction requirements, the road will build itself with a cut scene showing where it leads.

The amount of Chiral Crystals, Metal, and Ceramics you’ll need to contribute to build the road will depend on how much other players have donated. It can range from a few hundred to several thousand. You can check how much is needed by hovering over a Auto-Paver on the map or by approaching it out in the world. It’s worth claiming resources at Delivery Terminals before setting off to build roads. Like any other type of structure, roads also need maintenance so if you have any spare resources it’s worth dropping them off to repair the path.
