These range from massive facilities housing hundreds of thousands of inhabitants like the Ciudad Nudo del Norte C1 to lone wolf preppers like The Artist. 

Aside from hooking them up to the Chiral Network, you’ll be tasked with ferrying back various items, lost cargo, and gear. As you do this, you’ll improve your relationship with each of them. By way of thanks, they’ll give you various upgrades and rewards to make your journey easier. Connection Level, Likes, and stars explained

Your main aim in Death Stranding 2 is to connect facilities, settlements, and people to the Chiral Network. You’ll achieve this by delivering cargo and completing orders. In exchange, each settlement will award you Likes that contribute towards raising your connection level with them. 

Connection level works on a five star system, which essentially represents your relationship or rank with that specific settlement or person. The more stars the better. For every star you unlock you’ll receive an upgrade and/or rewards. These range from weapon upgrades, access to more materials, Chiral Network bandwidth, PCC structures, suit colors, weapons, vehicle upgrades, and more.

While some facilities will happily join the Chiral Network, some require convincing, which you can do by finding Lost Cargo and completing Aid Requests for them. It’s worth noting that increasing the connection level with some locations is tied to major story Main Orders, so you might need to return later on after progressing further.

As tempting as it might be to max out each facility during your first visit to Mexico, it’s worth pressing on with the story until you reach Australia and unlock Standard Orders, the Pickup Off-Roader, and Zip-Lines. Once you’ve unlocked these, you can head back to Mexico and have a much easier time raising your connection levels.
