Wondering how much time to set aside to beat Death Stranding 2? Hideo Kojima’s opaque and wonderfully weird sequel is here and with it the promise of countless cameos, hours trekking across desolate landscapes, and plenty of navel-gazing tangents. We were pretty taken with the whole thing as you can read in our review.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through how long it will take you to beat Death Stranding 2, touching on different playstyles from playing through only the story to getting through every last delivery and secret the game has to offer.

How long is Death Stranding 2

Death Stranding 2 will take the average player that sticks to the 17-episode main story roughly 35-40 hours to complete. This includes a few optional Standard Orders and Sub Orders with the difficulty dialled to either casual or normal. Your mileage will vary depending on how quickly you can traverse the tough terrain of Mexico and Australia, but we don’t see most players that follow the story pretty tightly to be playing for any more than 50 hours.

For completionists aiming to complete the story, finish up every last order, get a 5 star connection level with all facilities and shelters, tick off every last trophy, and unearth every Easter Egg and cameo, you’re looking at anywhere from 80 to 100 hours at least. Naturally, if you bump up the difficulty expect the play time to be longer as those haunting BTs and pesky brigands will put up a serious fight, not to speak of the many treacherous portions that make up the game’s two major regions. Luckily, the game is fully playable post-credits, so you’ll have the option to explore and wonder as long as you want once the story is wrapped up.
