After trekking across the mountain ridges and reaching Sam and Lou’s bunker at the start of Death Stranding 2, you’ll get an unexpected visit from Fragile. Aside from seeing a familiar face, her arrival will also trigger one of the first decisions you’ll have to make. Should you accept Fragile’s offer to help connect the Chiral Network in Mexico or refuse?
Though it can feel like an important decision, it has no impact on how the game unfolds as we’ll explain below. In this guide, we’ll walk you through what happens if you choose to help Fragile or not in Death Stranding 2. Should you choose to help Fragile in Mexico or not?
Choosing ‘I’ll do it’ and accepting to help Fragile is what the game wants you to do. Opting for this option will progress the cut scene and start Sam’s foray into Mexico to help establish the network there.
Go for ‘I won’t do it’ and you’ll get a front row seat to some signature Kojima playfulness. The screen will fade to black, punting you back to the cut scene that played when you first entered the bunker. Sam will cook and play with Lou before the camera focuses on the wall of photographs and zooms in on one depicting the conversation between Sam and Fragile about helping in Mexico. You’ll then get the same choice: ‘I’ll accept the offer’ or ‘I won’t do it.’
If you refuse again, the screen will fade to black once more and you’ll get the same cut scene with Sam and Lou in the bunker. However, this time the camera zooms into a picture of Sam on the mountain ridges. The implication is that you’ve been booted back to the beginning of the game. Sam will chime in saying ‘no, no’ and the camera will quickly pan back to the picture of Sam and Fragile. You’ll get one final dialogue choice, though it isn’t really a choice at all as the only option is ‘I’ll accept the order.’
As you can tell, refusing to help Fragile will loop you back to the dialogue choice and force you to accept the order to continue the game. The bottom line is that choosing not to help Fragile has no impact or bearing on how the game plays out moving forward. It’s worth refusing just to get the special cut scene but if you want to save time, simply accept to help Fragile the first time around.
