Death Stranding 2 APAS Enhancements let you improve Sam’s portering, Bridge Link, stealth, and combat abilities, souping them up to be even more effective. This means an easier time ferrying tons of cargo across Mexico and Australia and battling the many bandits and brigands out to swipe your precious deliveries.

However, the number of APAS Enhancements you can have active at any one time is limited by memory so there’s a bit of a balancing act to making the most of them. This becomes especially challenging as you unlock more modules with even better improvements. At least that’s the case until you know how to raise your memory cap. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to unlock APAS Enhancements, how to get more memory, and offer a full list of all APAS Enhancements in Death Stranding 2.

How to unlock APAS Enhancements

To unlock APAS Enhancements, you’ll need to progress the story until you reach Australia in Episode 3 Drawbridge. After passing through the plate gate, head to the DHV Magellan to meet Charlie. After the cut scene, exit the Private Room and head to the Delivery Terminal. Accept Order 009 Deliver the Chiral Decontaminator to the Government’s Base and when you reach the Final Preparations screen you’ll unlock APAS Enhancements.

A brief tutorial will follow explaining that these are customisable enhancements that improve and upgrade Sam’s combat and movement skills. They can be accessed from any Final Preparations screen but also by tapping pause and selecting APAS Enhancements in the Ring Menu.

How to get more APAS Enhancements modules

At first, you’ll only have access to only a handful of APAS Enhancement modules. Activating a module requires memory, which is allocated from a set pool that you can increase as we’ll explain below. You can unlock more modules by raising Sam’s Porter Grade, which is done by completing orders, helping other players, engaging in combat, and staying stealthy when near BTs – in other words, by playing the game. There are also a few that are unlocked by raising your connection level with specific preppers such as The Architect and BPAS.

How to get more APAS Enhancements memory

To get more APAS Enhancements memory, you’ll need to raise the connection level star rating with facilities and preppers across Australia. As you get more stars, the people in these locations will reward you with gear, items, and APAS Enhancements Memory Upgrades.

For example, getting The Government’s Base in Australia to level 2 unlocks a +15 APAS Enhancements Memory Upgrade, effectively raising your memory pool limit by 15. The best way to raise the connection level is to complete orders, notably repeatable Standard Orders. Over time you’ll accumulate enough memory to activate all modules in the APAS Enhancements skill tree.

Additionally, you’ll also unlock APAS Enhancements Memory Upgrades for completing main story orders that involve connecting facilities to the Chiral Network.

Death Stranding 2 APAS Enhancements list

Here’s a list of all APAS Enhancements we’ve come across far and a brief description of what they each do:

APAS EnhancementsCategoryDescription
Augmented Terrain ScannerPorterDoubles the terrain scanner’s range, allowing Sam to analyse terrain from a greater distance.
Battery Efficiency BoostsPorterReduces vehicles’ battery consumption by 8%.
Sensor Mode ChangePorterAdds a mode to the Odradek’s terrain scanner which reduces its overall detection area in order to increase the range.
Instant Cargo BindingPorterInstantaneously generates an electromagnetic field whenever Sam falls over, binding his cargo and preventing it from scattering.
Self-Driving SupportPorterAllows vehicles to drive themselves. This enhancement will activate upon reaching a certain speed – without boosting- when driving in the centre of a road.
Improved Floating CarriersPorterDramatically reduces the rate at which floating carriers consume chiral crystals as they move. Riding floating carriers is now more efficient.
Carrier Handling BoostPorterDramatically improves the floating carrier’s manoeuvrability when Sam is riding it.
Skeleton Auto-AssistPorterAllows Sam’s active skeleton to automatically adjust his posture, making it harder for him to lose his balance.
Super Balance Assistance (2 stars connection level reward at BPAS, Australia)PorterMakes it easier for Sam to keep his balance even without an active skeleton, however it consumes Chiral Crystals when you’re moving.

Projectile PredictorCombatShows where incoming thrown projectiles, such as grenades and rods, are predicted to land by analysing real-time enemy movements.
Super Aim Assistance (4 stars connection level reward at BPAS, Australia) CombatWhen aiming a firearm, the targeting reticle will automatically centre on an enemy. Aim assistance will activate at a larger range.
Super EM Plasma (5 stars connection level reward at BPAS, Australia) CombatLeverages super electromagnetic plasma to greatly increase the area of effect of electrical weapons.
Strand Contract Cap Boost (x2)Bridge LinkIncrease the total number of Strand Contracts Sam can form.
Sharing Boost (x2)Bridge LinkIncreases the number of objects from other worlds that can be shared within the chiral network. Equipment that you would no ordinarily be able to make may be shared with you as a result.
