Looking to sell electricity in Cities Skylines 2? Exporting excess goods is essential to running a profitable and sustainable city in the game.
Our Cities Skylines 2 vs Cities Skylines comparison shows that not a lot has changed in terms of how exports are handled. Learning how to connect power lines in Cities Skylines 2 is essential to keep electricity running through your city. But there’s more to selling electricity than the traditional low voltage lines.

How to export electricity in Cities Skylines 2 and make a profit
Connect your city’s power lines to a Transformer Station, then connect it to a high voltage power line that extends outside your city’s tiles to sell electricity in Cities Skylines 2.
The first step is fairly straightforward but remember that the high voltage line is the second option in the power menu. These can be laid over the ground or underground (dark blue). Note that you need to produce more electricity than you consume to export electricity. This is especially helpful with fossil fuel plants like coal plants. These generate a lot of electricity that may not be necessary right as you begin the game.
Remember the difference between low voltage and high voltage lines
Low voltage lines are yellow while high voltage lines are dark blue in colour. Just don’t confuse them with sewage and water lines respectively.
This lets you export excess electricity. To ensure that you’re actually exporting, check the Electricity Trade section in the Electricity submenu. The export process itself happens automatically. You just need to connect the power line to your Transformer Station. If you’ve got excess water, you can export that too. This lets you improve your profitability even more. Here’s a guide on how to export water in Cities Skylines 2.
