It’s been a fair few years since we’ve seen an AC game launch on Switch in tandem with other platforms. We have to turn our heads and peer back as far as AC Odyssey, and even then the Greek-themed romp through the Aegean Sea only launched in Japan and was only playable via the cloud. So for those holding out hope of a Switch version of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you can already guess where this is going.
The short answer is that Assassin’s Creed Shadows isn’t launching on the Nintendo Switch on day one. In this guide, we’ll walk you through all the details around the AC Shadows not launching on Nintendo’s aging flagship console.
Is Assassin’s Creed Shadows releasing on Switch?
No, there are currently no plans for AC Shadows to come to Nintendo Switch, whether that’s on the official release date, March 20, 2025, or sometime in the future. Ubisoft hasn’t mentioned the Switch once in trailers and other marketing material. Checking storefronts, both physical and digital, for Shadows doesn’t turn up anything either. Similarly, Nintendo hasn’t even hinted at a Switch port.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise to most players. Only four AC games have ever been released on Switch: AC 3 Remastered, AC Rebel Collection, AC The Ezio Collection, and AC Odyssey (Japan and cloud only). The majority of these are bundled re-releases and remakes. Much of this is down to the limited hardware and power under the Switch’s diminutive hood. Shadows is even more demanding than past titles making it even more difficult for the console to make the game anywhere near playable.
While the original Switch is more or less guaranteed to be off the table, the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is a different story. The rumour mill has been churning away to the tune of whispers about Assassin’s Creed Shadows launching on the Switch successor in 2025. One to take with a pinch of salt, but it seems like a reasonably solid bet. We’ll have to wait and see.
