After surviving your first few raids in Arc Raiders and completing early quests like Off The Radar, you’ll quickly want to turn your attention to upgrading your Workshop. In particular, a leveled-up Gunsmith lets you craft weapons that pack a bigger punch against Arc robots and other players alike.
To upgrade to Gunsmith II, you’ll need three Rusted Rools, a blue rare recyclable material. Unhelpfully, the item description doesn’t mention that it’s required for the upgrade, so you’ve likely recycled a few for Metal Parts and Steel Springs inadvertently. Not to worry, though, they are fairly abundant if you know where to look. Here’s how to get Rusted Tools in Arc Raiders.
- Rusted Tools are found in areas containing Mechanical and Industrial loot.
- You’ll need three Rusted Tools to upgrade to Gunsmith II, but beyond that, they can be recycled freely for Metal Parts and Steel Springs.
- The best early-game farming spot in Dam Battlegrounds is the Scrapyard.
Where to find Rusted Tools in Arc Raiders
To get Rusted Tools in Arc Raiders, you’ll need to search containers, lockers, crates, and boxes in areas marked as containing Mechanical and Industrial loot. These areas are marked on the map by a cog symbol (Mechanical) and a factory chimney symbol (Industrial).
Here’s a quick run-through of the best locations to find Rusted Tools on each of the Arc Raiders maps:
- Dam Battlegrounds: Scrapyard, Water Towers, Formicai Outpost, Electrical Substation, Water Treatment Control, Primary Facility
- Buried City: Parking Garage, Su Durante Warehouses
- Spaceport: Maintenance Hangar, Vehicle Maintenance, Container Storage, Fuel Control
- The Blue Gate: Adorned Wreckage, Checkpoint, Warehouse Complex
Once you’ve found three, it’s well worth slotting them into your Safe Pocket in case you don’t manage to extract. Aside from the Gunsmith II upgrade, Rusted Tools aren’t used in any other crafting or upgrade recipes as far as we can tell. As such, you can freely recycle them for eight Metal Parts and one Steel Spring each once you’ve used three to level up the Gunsmith. You can also sell them for 1,000 credits a pop.
Best early-game Rusted Tools farm location

While you can find Rusted Tools across all maps, the Scrapyard in Dam Battlegrounds is a reliable farming location in the early game. The Scrapyard point of interest is located in a forest in the south of the map, southeast of Research and Administration and southwest of Testing Annex. Conveniently, it’s located near three of the southernmost player spawn points, making it a short run away if the RNG spawning gods are on your side.

Once you reach the Scrapyard, look out for large square metal crates next to the carcasses of cars and other rusted detritus. Breach and search the crates to access the loot inside. Each one is more or less guaranteed to contain one or more Rusted Tools. A single run should net you anywhere from three to six Rusted Tools.
