To better understand the unit rankings in our tier list, we’ve outlined what comprises each tier below. So let’s explain what makes these units more or less powerful.
S-tier units
These units are the absolute best in All Star Tower Defense X. They consistently outperform others in all modes, offering top-tier damage, range, AoE attacks, and utility like stuns or buffs. While you’re grinding story mode or taking on infinite waves, S-tier units are must-haves for any serious player. Across the board, characters like Michishibo, Slayer Mage, Etri, Dark Wing, Xero, The Strongest One, and Ziek dominate the current meta. These units excel due to a mix of high DPS, multi-hit capabilities, and synergy with other top-tier characters.
A-tier units
A-tier units are powerful and highly effective, though slightly less dominant or more situational than S-tier ones. They may lack in raw power or versatility, but still deliver excellent results when appropriately used. Characters such as Mysterious X, Zorro, Explosion Artist, Venus, and Ikki (Hollow) are useful for their solid damage output, crowd control, or unique abilities that complement S-tier units well. These are great choices for mid-to-late game comps and often serve as secondary damage dealers or utility supports in high-level teams.
B-tier units
Units in the B-tier can be good investments early on or in specific compositions, but they start to fall behind as challenges become more demanding. These characters, like Humble-Swordman (Selection), Super God Koku, Zaruto (Sage), and Ramen Grill-Master, typically offer moderate damage or limited utility. They’re viable for story progression and certain PvE setups, but are usually outclassed by higher-tier units in late-game or competitive scenarios. However, they’re especially useful for players still building up their roster.
C-tier units
C-tier units are generally considered average or outdated. While not useless, they tend to have lower stats, outdated mechanics, or limited usefulness past early stages. Units such as Water Goddess, Stampede, The Cursed One, and Koro (Lobby) are often used for filler roles or experimentation. They may still work in casual or early wave content, but shouldn’t be prioritized unless you’re lacking better alternatives.
D-tier units
D-tier units are mostly obsolete or underpowered in the current meta. They offer little value outside of being placeholders or starter units and are quickly outclassed. In general, avoid investing in characters like Ice Queen, Jon Jo, Zaruto, Kosuke, and Anti Magician unless you’re a new player just getting started. These units lack the range, damage, or utility necessary for serious progression.
