GAME has begun selling digital content for Xbox 360 in its stores, MCV has revealed.

The range of content will include Xbox LIVE Arcade titles and additional content for full retail games. 40 stores are trialling the range of digital content for a six month period.

The hope is that gamers without credit cards will be able to purchase this digital content with cash or store credit, which would otherwise have been difficult to obtain.

Microsoft UK’s general manager of retail sales and marketing Neil Thompson commented: “We’re excited to offer this program to UK consumers as we see this as an innovative opportunity to work with GAME in delivering Xbox 360 owners yet another highly attractive choice at retail.”

Much like MS Points cards sold in retail stores, in-store digital content will be provided via a code which can then be redeemed on the Xbox 360, meaning online access is a requirement.

Where the new scheme differs from points cards is the ability for consumers to purchase only the items they want, rather than a pre-determined amount of points.
