The Game Boy Micro has gone on sale in Japan and according to reports from retailers the miniature handheld has got off to a “solid” start, but has so far failed to match the sales frenzy the Game Boy Advance caused on its release. The Micro has gone on sale in Japan one week earlier than in North America at a price of 12,000 yen.
“The orders have been going well,” said a Yamada Denki spokesman (Japan’s largest discount home electronics retailer). “Especially, the Famicon colour version is really popular.“
The Game Boy Micro has launched with four different colours – silver, purple, black and blue – but it’s the limited edition Famicon version that is selling the best. To coincide with the launch of the Micro Nintendo also released three new Game Boy Advance games: Super Mario Bros., Dr. Mario and Panel de pon!, and Mario Tennis Advance. The Micro launches in North America on September 17th, but Europeans have to wait until November 4th.
