The Coalition's Rod Fergusson was a director at Epic Games, and he has said that when he was there he tried to cancel Fortnite.

In an interview with Game Informer (thanks Eurogamer), Fergusson said, 'If I stayed at Epic, I would have cancelled Fortnite. Before I left, I tried to cancel Fortnite. When it was Save the World… that was a project that had some challenges. And as the director of production at the time, that game would not have passed my bar for something we should continue to keep going.'

It's surreal to hear something like this now, with Fortnite exerting a Jupiter-strength gravitational pull on gaming culture.

Fergusson comes across open and unguarded, saying, 'So when people look at me and say "don't you feel bad [that he left before Fortnite's stratospheric success]?" I say no, you should feel really good, because that game you love – that worldwide sensation – would not exist had I stayed at Epic.'

Fergusson did also say that he doesn't 'lose sleep' over any of it, and that he is 'super happy for [Epic's] success.'
