Tom Orry, Editor – Doom, Xbox One

I’m back on Doom. Having been occupied with other work stuff for a few weeks it felt a bit odd being dumped back in during a particularly heated battle. I’d lost whatever ability I’d managed to accrue over the previous five hours and it was as if I’d walked in during the middle of a conversation and no one bothered to get me up to speed. Still, I’m enjoying the combat and the drip feeding of new enemies, and I’m sure I’ll rediscover some form just as I have to stop to focus on playing something else.

For work I played through Inside from start to finish in one morning. I’ve said why I think it’s an amazing game here, but I just want to touch on the merits of short video games. I hate watching films in two sessions, but given that adults with children have precious little time to fit in a 3-hour monster (or less), from time to time it has to happen. It breaks the flow and I can’t help but think it lessens the impact. This stopping and starting is a given in video games, though, but it doesn’t have to be.

How many games have you finished in one sitting? And how many of those are some of your favourite games? Portal? Journey? Limbo? They are still longer than most films, but it’s possible to get the complete experience in one sitting. I’m pretty sure Inside wouldn’t have left such an impression on me had I had a two-day break in the middle. I know games are expensive, and I certainly would be miffed if I’d paid £40+ for a four-hour game, but £15 for a tight experience is something I’m very interested in.

Steve Burns, Deputy Editor – Being Mad on Twitter, PC, iOS

This week I’ve not actually played that many games. Sure, I had another go on Dead by Daylight, a game I really quite like. And yeah I played a bit of PES. But mainly I’ve been having a go on ‘who can shout the loudest and best into the endless void that is Twitter?’, which I have to say is one of the greatest games of all time.

On a related note, I also hit my high score on Twitter, getting 3,500 retweets on a Fairly Good Observation, after years of stone cold GOLD going unheralded, unloved, un-boosted. This is what it must be like to be Martin Scorsese. Anyway, I’m over that now, and all it took was the downfall of western civilisation. Anyway. I really want to play Inside. That looks good. I’ll wait though, until it’s on a real games machine.

Only joking. I’ll play it on PC.
