Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is by far my most anticipated game this year. As someone who grew up on Hideo Kojima’s games, Snake Eater will always have a special place in my heart. Never before did I feel so invested in a game’s characters or explore a world that felt so vast and real.

It wasn’t the infamous ‘ladder scene’ that made me realise how special Metal Gear Solid 3 was. It was the tiny details, such as Naked Snake vomiting if you spin the character around too aggressively in the menu, the wildlife dotted around each gated area… All of the elements I loved from the original PSX Metal Gear Solid were there, just expanded upon with aplomb.

Where is Metal Gear Delta: Snake Eater?

It’s no surprise, then, that Konami has been treating the upcoming Snake Eater remake with a lot of caution. While we know the game is playable from start to finish, but there is still no news of a release date despite a planned launch for last year.

We’ve even had Funko Pops announced, yet Delta’s penned release is nowhere to be seen. To make matters worse, the Production Hotline, which I’ve highlighted on VideoGamer.com plenty of times as absolutely the right thing to do for the fans, has gone quiet. The last one episode released during the Tokyo Game Show in September. Prior to that, there was a decent cadence, with Production Hotlines of sorts appearing every couple of months.

There;s still no release date for Metal Gear Solid delta: Snake Eater – although it is due to land this year

In Episode 2, Jiro Oshi, who manages promotions for the Metal Gear series told viewers: “What we want the Production Hotline to be is a channel for the Production team to speak straight to fans, check in on our progress and talk about the development process. Of course the most important part is to be responsive to our fans’ concerns, so we’ll keep doing Ask The Metal Gear Team, too”.

The second episode of the brilliant Metal Gear Production Hotline now seems a distant memory

For the last few months, MGS fans have been calling for development updates, especially regarding the release date, but sadly we haven’t had anything back. It’s best for Delta to come out in the best shape possible and not to rush a remake of a game brimming with minute details, but the lack of a Production Hotline, or any updates, especially as we’re now coming to the end of January, does seem like a missed opportunity to keep eager fans up-to-date with the latest developments.

I am hopeful that at least one episode of the Metal Gear Solid Production Hotline will come imminently, hopefully addressing a number of questions that have built up over the past few months, but whether it happens is another thing entirely.
