If you have even a passing interest in FPS gaming, you’ll want to take a look at Rage. It’s the first new IP in ages from id Software – the creators of Doom, Quake and Wolfenstein 3D – and while won’t be held in the same regard, it has some of the best single-player FPS action we’ve seen in ages. The game doesn’t fare quite so well in its less shooty moments, but it’s still a very important release.
For gamers who like a genuine challenge, Dark Souls could be just what the doctor ordered. The extreme difficulty is something of an acquired taste, but the atmosphere here is second to none – and it’ll last you for ages, too.

Worth a look
This is a good week if you follow a sport which is… well, I’ll get in trouble if I call it niche, but that’s sort of what it is as far as European gamers are concerned. NBA 2K12 will sort you out if you like tall men jumping up to baskets on sticks.
