Welcome to Heads-up, our weekly feature which gives you an at-a-glance run-down on the games you’ll be able to buy or rent this weekend. Every Monday we’ll pick out the best of the bunch, link to our reviews and previews and keep you in the video game loop so you have enough time to pre-order for Friday’s post. Time to smash open your piggy bank so you can spend its coin-shaped guts.

Recommended – Diablo III, PC and Max Payne 3, PS3 & Xbox 360

After a somewhat drab period for retail game releases, two rather big ones show up in the same week. First up is Blizzard’s Diablo III, which gets a headstart by launch on Tuesday. We’re yet to get going on the final code – the servers don’t open until tonight – but we’re confident this will be worth the wait.

And on Friday comes Rockstar Games’ Max Payne 3, itself a sequel which has been a long time coming. Our review is incoming so check back soon for the score.

And the rest…

  • Garden Simulator – PC
  • Fritz Chess 11 – PC
  • Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion XL – Xbox 360, PS3, Wii
  • Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion – 3DS
  • Athletics Tournament – Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PC
