This article contains officially confirmed information combined with expert industry speculation, rumors, and analysis. We will update this page with the latest news as soon as it’s available.

After Dawn of War 3 landed like a sack of soppy spuds, the legendary RTS series is back with Dawn of War 4. Former developer Relic is out of the picture, and in has stepped developer King Art. The task is simple, if ambitious. King Art must elevate the series to its former standing.

We’re receiving all the right signals so far that Dawn of War 4 will be a return to form, thanks to several trailers and drip-fed nuggets of information about large-scale battles, deep RTS mechanics, and even a brand new faction. Here’s everything you need to know about Dawn of War 4.

✓ VideoGamer summary

  • Dawn of War 4 is scheduled for release in 2026.
  • It will be released on PC.
  • The game will feature a campaign comprising over 70 missions, told from the perspectives of four factions: Space Marines, Orcs, Necrons, and Adeptus Mechanicus.

Expected Dawn of War 4 release window

According to the announcement trailer broadcast during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025, Dawn of War 4 is currently scheduled for release in 2026. The trailer vaguely states “Coming 2026”, giving us no hints whatsoever about when in 2026 it might reach players.

If we dip into a spot of speculation for a moment, we’d anticipate publisher Deep Silver will want a good year of runway to fire the marketing machine. That puts the latter half of 2026 as a sensible estimate, though take this with a pinch of salt.

Dawn of War 4 gameplay and trailer analysis

Two Warhammer 40k Dawn of War 4 trailers have been released so far. The first is the official Gamescom announcement trailer. Heavy on CGI and orchestral stabs, the trailer depicts the Blood Raven Space Marines making a last stand on the world of Kronus, duking it out against Orks and Necrons. It’s death, duty, slaughter, and all that velvety, evocative language you’d expect from the series. No in-game footage here, though.

The second Dawn of War 4 trailer, suitably dubbed the “Back to War” in-engine trailer, premiered at the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct in September 2025. On the whole, it’s a meatier offering, showcasing squads of Space Marines, Orcs, Necrons, and Adeptus Mechanicus warring on an open map from an isometric perspective. The aim is clearly to reassure fans let down by the MOBA-geared nonsense of Dawn of War 3 that developer King Art is honoring the series’ real-time strategy legacy.

We catch a glimpse of structures, vehicles, control groups, a build menu, and large-scale battles, catnip for RTS fans. Although nominally captured in-engine, there’s a big ol’ overlay stating”’work in progress – not final quality,” so make of that what you will.

Dawn of War 4 price predictions

Publisher Deep Silver has yet to confirm a price point for Dawn of War 4. Falling into what we’d call the AA space, we expect the price to match, coming in somewhere around $60 (£50) as we’ve seen with Deep Silver’s recent big-ticket releases like Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. We can’t completely rule out a hike up to $70 (£60) due to factors like inflation and rising development costs.

Dawn of War 4 platforms

As of writing, the only confirmed Dawn of War 4 platform is PC via Valve’s Steam storefront. All three previous Dawn of War games have been released exclusively on PC (alongside Mac and Linux versions in some cases). We expect this to continue with the fourth installment in the series. In other words, we don’t anticipate Dawn of War 4 making its way onto consoles at launch or in the future.

Dawn of War 4 story and setting

Though details are a bit light as of writing, we know that Dawn of War 4 is set on the planet of Kronos years after the events of Dawn of War Dark Crusade. The allied Space Marines of the Blood Ravens Chapter and the Adeptus Mechanicus are making a last stand against the Orks, while the Necrons barge in to add to the chaos as Kronos burns.

There are four factions to control and over 70 campaign missions. You’ll experience a story crafted by talented Black Library author John French from the perspective of the Space Marines, Necrons, Orks, and, for the first time, the Adeptus Mechanicus. Though the single-player campaign (you can also play in co-op) is the star of the show, Dawn of War 4 will also land with an in-game editor and a robust multiplayer component, along with replayable modes such as Last Stand and Skirmish.

How will Dawn of War 4 compare to the other Dawn of War games?

From what we know so far, Warhammer 40k Dawn of War 4 is inspired by the RTS roots of the series, namely the original Dawn of War. Out with the MOBA dross and in with brutal, large-scale, real-time battles.

Developer King Art also has some serious RTS pedigree, having released the well-received Iron Harvest, which bodes well for those burnt by Dawn of War 3 developer Relic’s misguided attempt at reinvention. In other words, Dawn of War 4 is shaping up to be the Dawn of War we know and love: the Warhammer 40k universe brought to life in intense, action-packed RTS goodness.
