We’ve still got Football Manager 2025 coming in March, but the game’s features are locked and loaded. To be brutally honest, the features for Football Manager 2026 are probably already set too. And if we’re being really honest, Sports Interactive isn’t going to listen to us when deciding how to take the game to the next level.
That said, there are a few features I’d love to see rolled out in the next few iterations of the game. These are ideas I don’t think would be too difficult to implement and would tangibly improve the experience for everyone. I’ve been playing a ridiculous amount of Football Manager 2024 lately, so I’ve noticed some things that could help win back the Football Manager community’s good graces.

All time goalscorer tracking – overall and by league
You'll get hints, tips, new challenges and all the latest news as we gear up for the next game.⚽🏆
This has been a heavily requested feature for ages, and I genuinely have no idea why it hasn’t been added. Imagine the thrill of seeing how your regens stack up against real-life legends for goals scored. You’ve got a wonderkid striker smashing it, and suddenly they’re closing in on Alan Shearer’s Premier League record. It would add immersion, motivation, and just another reason to keep playing.
We could track top scorers in individual leagues and have an overall all-time top scorers list. If my regen scores more goals than Cristiano Ronaldo, I need to know about it. The Hall of Fame is already dynamic—Pep Guardiola just overtook Sir Alex Ferguson in mine—so why can’t we do the same with players? And once they add goals, why not assists too? Go on, Sports Interactive, give us the cherry on top.
Show when tactical decisions and formation changes were made
This idea was inspired by a post on the Sports Interactive forums. It would be so useful to see when specific tactical changes were made during a match. Right now, the end-of-game screen only shows the tactic you finished with, not the ones you used throughout the game.
Sure, it tells you how many minutes you used each formation, but it doesn’t show what actually happened during those periods. How many goals did I score? How many did I concede?
It would be amazing to have statistics tied to specific tactical tweaks. For example, how many goals do I score when I turn on Get Stuck In versus when I don’t? Obviously, the effectiveness of changes depends on other factors like the opposition’s strength, but give us the stats and let us make the judgments ourselves.
This one’s for the lazy among us. It’s infuriating to click through every single wonderkid and manually scout or add them to the shortlist. We all know why these lists exist: to help us poach wonderkids from smaller clubs. So why not let us scout them all in one go?
Ability to select and scout more than 50 players in one go
If you select more than 50 players in the scouting screen, the option to scout them disappears. Why?! This forces you to drag and carefully select just under 50 players every time.
There must be a technical reason for this, but I can’t see it. Just let us select up to 1,000 players to “Assign to Scouting Pool” in one go. Save us valuable minutes that could be spent buying more wonderkids.
Ability to negotiate everything when offered a new contract
I was recently offered a new contract by Boca Juniors. I’ve absolutely smashed it with them, sitting comfortably at the top of the league. Yet when they handed me the new deal, there wasn’t any option to request changes.
No chance to tweak the club vision, ask for an increased wage budget, or request more coaches. If I’ve performed well enough to get a new contract, surely I’d have some leverage to make these requests? Even if they say no, I’d at least like the option to ask.
It’s like being invited to a party—you might not want to go, but it’s nice to be asked.
The social feed is being axed in Football Manager 2025, but hear me out: imagine if AI powered unique, dynamic interactions in press conferences and social feeds.
Currently, these features get stale fast because you see the same questions and responses every time. If something like ChatGPT ran behind the scenes, it could make every interaction feel personal and engaging.
That said, the environmental impact of AI is a legitimate concern, and this is a debate far bigger than Football Manager. But for now, let’s just agree that press conferences are boring, everyone sends their assistant, and they desperately need a revamp.
Sports director/director of football mode
You can already play as a pseudo-Director of Football by delegating everything to your assistant manager except transfers, or vice versa. But how about a dedicated mode?
In this mode, you’d handle tactics, hire managers, and build squads. If things go wrong, you could sack the manager and shift the blame onto them. It would add a whole new dimension to the game.
Of course, this shouldn’t come at the expense of the traditional management mode, but as a side option, it could be incredible.
