DivX, Inc. has today announced that DivX video technology is to be integrated in to the PlayStation 3.
“We are excited to work with Sony Computer Entertainment to bring DivX to PS3,” said Kevin Hell, CEO of DivX, Inc. “Our technology will expand the multimedia functionality of PS3 by enabling users to enjoy access to the broad library of content in the DivX digital media format.“
Work is currently ongoing to give the PlayStation 3 DivX certification, with current PlayStation 3 users able to add DivX functionality to their consoles via a system update at a future date. Game developers will also be able to utilize DivX’s decoder technology thanks to the recent update to the PS3 Software Development Kit.
