It’s Wednesday and that means there’s a good chance a new Xbox Live Arcade title is available. Today sees the release of the 1981 classic Dig Dug from Namco Bandai. In the game you’ll have to dig tunnels and defeat enemies using a harpoon to inflate and pop them or crush them with rocks.

As usual the game has been given a slight graphical boost so it doesn’t offend the modern gamer, plus has been kitted out with scoreboards and 5.1 surround sound. Don’t forget that you can download a demo of any Live Arcade game before you buy it.

We’re struggling to find Dig Dug listed in the Arcade, but Xbox.com is promoting the game for release today, so hopefully it’ll arrive soon.

Microsoft has also been promoting upcoming Xbox Live titles, with several available to try at the Tokyo Game Show. Upcoming titles include Contra, Gyruss, Track & Field, New Rally-X, Rush’n Attack and Ms. Pac-Man. Microsoft also announced the Japan exclusive release of Yie Ar Kung Fu from Konami which is expected in 2007.
