In a post on the official Capcom blog, it has been revealed that Capcom has no intention of bringing back the much loved Final Fight franchise. The side-scrolling 2D beat’em up has appeared on a host of platforms over the years, but looks resigned to the history books. Along with Final Fight, Capcom has also stated it has no plans to bring back the fiendishly difficult Maximo franchise.
“Capcom is responsible for some of the most revered characters and properties in video game history and now its our turn to add to the slate by invigorating old IPs and creating wholly new ones (Don’t worry, we’re leaving Final Fight and Maximo in hibernation… those were the olden days…),” states the Capcom blog.
With Capcom currently working on the high definition remake of Street Fighter II, we’d hoped for similar treatment for Final Fight. Sadly there appears to be no chance of this happening.
Capcom attempted to bring back the franchise in 2006 with the release of Final Fight Streetwise. However, the game was panned by critics and was a commercial failure.
Capcom fans do have some reason to be cheery though. In the same blog post the software developer and publisher reveals it has a host of new titles in development.
“We’ve got 15 different projects cooking right now (and more to come) – many that have been announced like Dark Void, Street Fighter 2 HD Remix, Commando 3, Rocketmen, Talisman, MotoGP, Okami Wii, and many more titles that haven’t even been announced. Yet,” states the blog post.
You can add Resident Evil 5 to that list and we’re certainly hoping for a next-gen instalment in the Onimusha series.
