Last week a rumour emerged from two Belgium Xbox Ambassadors. They claimed to have inside information that Brutes are playable in Halo 3 and that this would be shown in a new seven-minute video to arrive on Xbox Live Marketplace on December 20.
With no source for the information, the rumour always looked a bit shaky and it has now been completely debunked by Halo creator Bungie.
Writing in the latest Bungie Weekly Update, Frank O’Connor says that Brutes are “not playable characters“. He goes on to add. “The fact is, Brutes in Halo 3 will be significantly more exciting, clever, graphically impressive, terrifying, numerous and angrier than in Halo 2, but they won’t be playable, especially since you, in the role of Master Chief, will be spending a significant amount of effort and ammunition reducing their population.“
However, Frankie does confirm the existence of a new documentary.
“We’re keeping the exact contents as a kind of holiday surprise for the faithful, and you’ll be able to see the entire thing in 720p and surround sound some time next week,” says Frankie. “It’s a very interesting piece. Especially if you’re interested in Campaign mode.“
The post also explains that non-Xbox 360 owners will also be able to see the video, but the Xbox 360 version will “have the best resolution for pausing, staring at something and saying, “Is that what I think it is!?”“
The Weekly Update was posted last week, so we can expect the documentary to be released later this week. Think of it as an early Christmas present.
