In typically exuberant form, Steve Ballmer talked about the new Xbox yesterday at Microsoft’s Redmond campus, telling tales of its ‘unbelievable’ graphics and stating that it was ‘an amazing, amazing innovation.’

In all honesty, that seems to be all he had to say, with concrete details still very hard to get hold of. Though, his confidence in the new system seems extremely high. Indeed, when asked what key factors would allow Microsoft to win the next round of the console race he stated that they would focus on quality third party software and ensure that games would be made to push the Xbox 2 to its limits. Certainly with the XNA game development platform, they have a solid base with which to achieve this.

It seems that with Microsoft kicking off the next generation console race so early, they will be in a very strong position, and with Ballmer’s confidence that Xbox 2 will ‘blow by Sony’, the competition must be getting slightly nervous.
