Sony has confirmed that the trade price for the PlayStation 2’s Platinum range has been cut by around a third, paving the way for some great deals this summer. Sony has not lowered the retail price, but the lower trade price will enable retailers to offer much more aggressively priced deals on the Platinum range.
A retailer has told Eurogamer. “Whereas you used to see two for thirty pound offers, two for twenty will become the norm very soon. Individually, you’ll see the range going for about UKP 14.99, and some stores may even decide to discount to UKP 9.99.“
This new low price point is good news for gamers wanting some quality, but cheap, gaming action in the usually quiet summer months. It would be surprising if a similar move is not made by Microsoft and Nintendo with their respective budget ranges.
