Portal 2 will be released in the week beginning April 18, Valve has announced. Originally intended for a late 2010 debut, the game was pushed shifted to February 2011 back in the summer.
No reason for the latest delay was given, but Valve is at least trying to make a joke out of it.
“This two month slip not only marks the shortest delay in Valve’s proud tradition of delays, it represents the approaching convergence of Valve Time and Real Time,” explained a Valve press release. “Though this convergence spells doom for humanity, it will not affect the new Portal 2 release date.”
Portal 2 will be released in the UK on April 22 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
While no reason for the delay was given, its new release date does ensure some breathing room after the planned February 2011 launch of PS3 exclusive shooter Killzone 3. The game will also help fill the Gears of War 3 shaped void in the Xbox 360 release schedule, after the third game in the series was moved to a holiday 2011 window.
