Much of the Petroglyph development team are former employees of Westwood Studios, who were responsible for such games as Command & Conquer, Blade Runner and Dune 2. Petroglyph, who are based in Las Vegas, are currently working to complete the widely anticipated Star Wars: Empire at War.

The worldwide deal will see Petroglyph create a Modern Military / Sci-Fi themed RTS franchise exclusively for SEGA, with SEGA managing all marketing and distribution. Further product details will be released at a later date.

SEGA is moving aggressively toward a leadership position in the RTS category and the team at Petroglyph is behind some of the finest games in the genre,” said Simon Jeffery, President and COO, SEGA of America.

SEGA has recently struck partnerships with Silicon Knights, Secret Level, Monolith Productions (Condemned) and Pseudo Interactive (Full Auto). These partnerships together with the acquisition of The Creative Assembly (Spartan: Total Warrior) has highlighted SEGA’s commitment to the Western market.

Expect more announcements from SEGA as we head into the Tokyo Game Show 2005.
