The Kinect launch line-up is understandably packed with controller-free experiences, but Microsoft has revealed Kinect/traditional controller hybrid titles are coming.

“We’ll continue to have controller-only games,” Alex Kipman, the brain behind the development of Kinect, told GamesIndustry.biz. “We love controller-free games, we love Kinect experiences and we’ll continue to grow our set of those as well. What we haven’t really talked about, but exist, are hybrid games.

“Games that are using the controller, which we know and love, and pieces, if not all, of the Kinect experiences to again make those experiences more immersive, more fun and more emotionally connected.”

Kinect is available now in North America and will launch in Europe on November 10.

While tech-crazed gamers will be among some of the first to pick up Kinect, much of the launch line-up won’t be as appealing as the hardware itself. It’s therefore important for Microsoft that going forward it can show that Kinect does have a place in the life of the Xbox’s large hardcore userbase.

Such games remain somewhat of a mystery, though the idea of using supplementary motions into hardcore experiences – such as throwing a grenade in an FPS – has previously been mentioned as a possibility by Kinect mouth piece and MS creative director, Kudo Tsunoda.
