Microsoft has announced a deal with Mistwalker game studios, with the developer creating two RPGs for Microsoft’s Xbox successor. Sakaguchi, the man who was inducted into the AIAS hall of fame for his work on the Final Fantasy series, will lead the creation of the yet to be announced titles.

Peter Moore, corporate vice president of Worldwide Marketing and Publishing at Microsoft, was more than pleased with the deal. He said:

“Sakaguchi-san has taken role-playing games ââ¬Ã¢â‚¬ traditionally a niche market ââ¬Ã¢â‚¬ and introduced them to a broad and diverse audience across the globe. We are ecstatic to work with Sakaguchi-san and celebrate what this news means not only for Xbox, but for gamers worldwide.”

While not as earth shattering as a deal with Square Enix would have been, this is still good news and shows that Microsoft are keen to win over Japanese gamers. Strong support from Japanese developers has been lacking for Microsoft this generation, but maybe this is a sign of things to come.
