US website IGN has got confirmation that Pokemon Pearl and Diamond are getting a Japanese Nintendo DS release in 2006, so expect the US and European releases to follow later in the year. Pokemon Masters who have spent many months on the GBA Pokemon games will be able to import all their Pokemon into the DS version.

A crucial element to any Pokemon game is the number of Pokemon that accompany you from the beginning of your adventure. There will be no new forms of Pokemon in the DS incarnation, so you will have to make do with the seventeen forms you know and love. There will, however, be new combination types and expect some new skills for the Pokemon.

Nintendo were heavily pushing the wonders of WiFi play at this year’s E3 and Pokemon Diamond and Pearl will not disappoint on this front. The new games will support up to 16 players over WiFi which sounds pretty exciting, but no specifics on this have been released yet.

There are also some rumours of another Pokemon game based on next year’s Pokemon movie. Details on this are scarce, but Pokemon fans have the prospect of several new Pokemon titles for next year.
