In an interview with the official Xbox website, head of Microsoft Game Studios Shane Kim spoke about what gamers can expect from the next Microsoft console. Shane commented that:

we’ve also built some great franchises that customers love and look forward to playing for many generations of Xbox, like Halo, Fable, Project Gotham Racing, and the upcoming Jade Empire and Forza Motorsport.

While this isn’t confirming sequels to these games, it is a pretty sure bet that Microsoft will continue their biggest franchises on future platforms.

When asked if Xbox could “unseat Sony” Shane wasn’t shying away from an answer. “Absolutely,” he said. “Xbox has incredible momentum right now, and we are well-positioned heading into the next generation of consoles. Xbox outsold PlayStation 2 in the U.S. during holiday 2004, Xbox Live is the world’s leading online gaming service (with nearly 1.5-million subscribers), third parties and retailers are supporting us enthusiastically, and we’ve created some terrific franchises in MGS that will provide us with exclusive competitive advantages in the next generation.

While the head of Microsoft Game Studios is bound to be optimistic about the future of the company he works for, you get the feeling that he and Microsoft genuinely feel that they have a great chance in the upcoming next-generation console war.
