THQ has revealed that it plans to release a follow-up to action adventure title Darksiders in its fiscal year 2012 – the year beginning April 1, 2011.

“In January, we successfully launched our new owned core game Darksiders. Darksiders achieved a Metacritic rating of 83 and has sold through well in a competitive core game launch window, which is a testament to the quality of the game and a strong marketing campaign,” said THQ CFO Paul Pucino during the publisher’s Q3 earnings call last night.

He added: “At about 1.2 million units shipped to date, we believe Darksiders is on track to meet our Q4 forecast.”

According to a presentation slide (seen by GameSpot) a sequel is planned for fiscal 2012.

THQ president and CEO Brian Farrell concluded: “We believe strongly that the NPD data and Chart Track data that come out at the end of the month will show solid sell-through of the title. As we said in our prepared remarks, quality game, good marketing campaign, we picked a launch window that turned out to be a little more crowded than we would have liked, but to have succeeded in that environment, we are really pleased to be able to build this franchise.”

Darksiders is out now for Xbox 360 and PS3.
