The 500GB PS4 will be receiving a makeover at the end of June, with a new, 10 per cent lighter model launching in Japan, followed shortly by other territories.

Sony made the announcement in a press release, which confirmed that the new models will come in two colours (Jet Black/Glacier White), with the hard drive bay cover now coming in a matte finish to give the system a “more casual look”. Power consumption has also been reduced by eight per cent.

Following the console’s launch in Japan at the end of the month, it will then subsequently launch in other territories.

The news comes quickly following the announcement of the 1TB ‘Ultimate Player Edition’ PS4, which is set to launch in July in Europe.
